How Much Is A Dime of Weed? + Dub Sacks and Nickel Bags

The term ‘dime bag’ has been around for decades. Put very simply, a dime bag is $10 worth of weed. This term of measurement for cannabis is slowly going away.

The common way to measure weed is by weight. That is, you would sell a gram for a certain amount. Then you have eighths and quarters and so on. If you’re not familiar with weed weights then check out one of my other posts: Marijuana Weight: Grams, Quarters, and Ounces. Oh my!

But, some people still use the term dime, as well as, nickel and dub so I’ll break it all down for you below.

How Many Grams in a Dime Bag?

Here’s where things get fishy, and why people are using the dime bag less and less. A dime bag is a set dollar amount of weed and no set weight. This means the amount you get is going to weigh differently between sellers. Of course, the quality is going to greatly affect how much you get. Depending on where you are a dime bag will typically have between .5-1 grams. Of course, you could have a better hookup that gives you a bit more. Like I said, it’s going to vary greatly.

Dime Bag Size

The traditional dime bags are the mini ziplock-style bags like the one shown in the cover photo of this article. Sometimes the bags will display a printed design. The size of these bags usually range between 1-1.5 inches on each side, but you can get bags in every size imaginable. You can buy these bags on Amazon for pretty cheap.

With that said, it does not have to actually be a mini ziplock to be a dime bag. If you’re buying $10 of weed then it’s a dime no matter if it’s in a sandwich bag or anything else.

Nickel Bag

A nickel bag (we always used to call them ‘nicks’) is $5 worth of weed. This is the absolute smallest amount that anyone would sell you. Most often it’s going to be low-grade because $5 worth of high-grade would only be .25 grams or so. Usually, you’re going to get half a gram of low-quality stuff. It’s typically the same size bag as a dime with half the amount of cannabis inside, however, sometimes you will see even smaller bags used for nicks.

Dub Sack

A dub sack is $20 worth of weed. The term dub was originally used to describe 20-inch rims. Again, the amount will vary depending on quality n’ such, but you’ll probably get anywhere from 1-3 grams. Of course, the size of a dub bag may be slightly larger than a dime bag – 2 inch x 2 inch is a common size.

Conclusion

Like I said before, the terms nickel, dime, and dub are becoming antiquated. Using actual weights like grams and ounces lets you know exactly what you’re getting. Of course, there are still plenty of people who still use the term dime so it’s good to know.

What do you think? Do you still know people who use dimes instead of grams? Let me know in the comment section below.

I know folks who still sell dime bags and the weed is pretty good. The problem is you hardly get enough to roll a joint. Me I don’t like wasting money or keep going back so I tend to buy a half Oz at a time. Those who can’t afford that much at one time rely on the dime bags…

In my city Reggie tends to run for about 10/g, so it’s not THAT weird to hear dime and dub, but they’re pretty much shorthand for weight. With my reggie guy I tell him a dollar amount, with my med guy I usually just get a zip since they don’t come in less than q’s anyhow.

Its really simple math okay look.
Good weed
#1=.5 is 10$
#2=1.0 is 20$
#3=1.5 is 30$
#4=3.5 is 35 to 40$
#5=7.0 is 70$
#6=14.0 is 135 to 140
#7=28.0 is 285 to 300
#8= 224gs is 600 to 800

Your fucking crazy

28.0 is 150 to 200 bro lol

Depends on what you have and what state your in. Mweed runs different prices everybody knows that. So dont starr knocking people.

You’ve lost your mind

I paid $10 for 6.8g of Regie ( not a gram of dro). Is that good?

When what we call Reggie is sold we refer to them in the terms blunt dime or dub.
A dub is good for a 1/4oz( 7grams)
A dime is good for 1/8oz(3.5g’s)
A blunt is good for 1/16oz(1.7g’s)
At least that’s what it is in my state
For the last 15 years no matter who I have gotten it from the same rule applied

This is what i came to this site for, lol, who knew id find the answer in the comments

when i started smoking a dime bag was a 1/4 oz and a nickle was an 1/8 oz.

The fuck are u kidding 7grams for 5dollars and 14 grams for 10bucks pshhh nigguh u must be trippin

Can I get away with 7 for a nik

In England an oz of decent weed you can pay between £180/£200
Half oz you can pay from£90/110
A quarter you can pay £65/£75
Eight you can pay £35/£45
So a big difference to America
And as you know it’s not legal in Europe

Being on an island doesn’t help either.

Actually, I just did a search on the exchange rate and that’s pretty comparable to US rates in states. Like a 20% mark-up on an 8th (I tend to pay $35 for reggie, $45 for the lower end of medical grade). Not bad for being on an island.

Yeah I remember nickels and dimesand 20s all the way up the food chain lol. But I also remember they used to sell trade bags and straight out joints lol. Trade bags were half a Nick and sold for 2 to 3 bucks and were often given away for free as a sample of the weed they had. And there was also compressed weed called brick or pellet witch had a much denser weight to it . Basically weed that was pressured into a brick for smuggling purposes. It’s in between weed and hash in its characteristic. But that was over 20 to 30 years ago. I can’t imagine that it’s still around these days with pot almost finally leagal.

My first bag of weed cost 10 dollars. Only four fingers but would last a long time.

This is incorrect for many parts of Canada, we use the term Nickel or “Nick” instead of the term Quarter (7grams), and we use Dime instead of the term Half (14grams) we do use the term Half but we use it instead of the term Eighths (3.5grams)
It’s where your from initially. Hope this cleared things up

I am just getting back into smoking weed cause it is so hard to get my pain meds filled. Weed has been great for pain and anxiety. I do widh I had a scale to weigh out what I buy. I am so glad that it is legal in my state. I can have six plants anf ly wife have six which then means…wait for it………..12 plants altogether. I am going to take advantage of that.

This will definitely give away my age but in high school when I smoked pot, a Dub was equal to an ounce and cost $20.00 A Dime bag was equal to a half ounce and cost $10.00. A Nickel bag was a quarter ounce and cost $5.00. Of course, it was usually that crappy pot with lots of seeds. We didn’t know any better back then, all we knew was it was so cheap we could buy that “Nickel” bag equal to a quarter ounce and roll one really big fat joint. Life was great!

That’s actually not “old”, I’m fresh out of college and through high school we were still using those same terms for the same quantities.

Does anyone remember a lid

I remember a lid $15.00

You must be close to 60 because I remember that too lol

In terms of Reggie, here in Texas a nick is 2.5 grams a dime is 5 grams a dub is 7 grams and a half oz is 14 grams. Nobody buys dubs, at least not me.. And I feel like anyone who has adding skills wouldnt either.
As for dank, it runs an eighth is 3.5 a quad is 7 a half is 14 and an oz is 28. Pretty simple math.

In the day… What? Yeah, the day… What day? Yeah, the day. What?

A dime bag was $10 and around 2 to 3 fingers in width in the bottom of a standard sandwich size baggie. Nickel bag was $5 bucks, 1-2 fingers in the same size bag. We didn’t buy or sell by weight, usually and it was an honor system to get the finger width expected. We always looked for guys with LARGE fingers! The basic test for quantity was to use the traditional close, roll and lick to seal the baggie. Measure with fingers. Quality was to pass a doob around and enjoy!

I remember going down to Mexico and buying Keys(Kilo bricks) of Columbian Red for $180 a Key. Seriously! And seriously bad ass weed too! Do the math… 2.2 pounds for $180. About $5 bucks an ounce! Go figure!

Smoke ’em if ya got ’em!

Yes! I was trying to explain the whole finger system to someone and they just couldn’t believe it ! That’s how we did back then.

Derrick is fukd up on his price and calculation on price and size a quarter oz for a dime he is the police

It’s been a little over a decade so recently when I went to purchase I asked for a dub and young man looked at me like I was Crazy lol I learned fast.

Your etymology of “dub” is wrong. The term dub, to describe a “double dime” out dates the advent of 20 inch rims potentially by decades. 20 inch rims were called dubs after “dub sacks”, not the other way around.

So, how many 2.4gm bags do you get from a 28gm oz

So I live in little ol NZ and things get pretty reaped here..

1. Anywhere from .8 -1.2grm $20
2. From 2.2 – 3.5grm $50
3. From 5 – 6 gem $100
4. 1/4 from $70- 100
5 1/2 from $130- $200
6 Holes are anywhere from $250 for Bush or over $400 for filth.. also depends what time of year etc… most of the time it’s dry as a bone as other drugs are staring to take over our country..

All you are idiots. I live in Long Beach ca my street source beats all the competition

Lmmfao you cats smoking garbage! Who the hell puts seven grams in a blunt. Waste of weed smoking garbage if you need to burn that much flower.

Nobody “needs” to roll 7gs into a blunt, but if you do you’ll never see weed the same way

This is incorrect for many parts of Canada, we use the term Nickel or “Nick” instead of the term Quarter (7grams), and we use Dime instead of the term Half (14grams) we do use the term Half but we use it instead of the term Eighths (3.5grams).

FYI: a “dub” didn’t start as a 20″ rim. $10 is a “sawbuck,” and $20 is a “double sawbuck,” aka a “double saw,” aka a “dub”. 😉

Nz.
1-2grams $20 is called a tinny, dinger, foil, so many names ..

3-5gram is a 50bag $50

Half ounce 16grams is upwards of $90 usually $180 for good shit

Full Ounce 32grams dreggs are $180 and upwards of $400 for the best weather and grade dependant, if there’s none round after raid season I’ve heard of people paying $800 for an O. Suppose depends on who you know and your whereabouts.

To you kiddies ridiculing folks referencing prices you are unable to wrap your little minds around, please allow me to set you straight.

I haven’t touched The Evil Weed in a half century. No need, no desire, no interest, and certainly disinclined to get a criminal record like too many of my friends ended up with.

But, in two days, it becomes legal in my state, and I am seriously considering trying to obtain some, because my life consists of pretty much darn little else but pain, courtesy of a doped up bitch that nearly killed me as I sat in my car, stopped behind the car in front of me. Many surgeries later — of the type where I had to sign a disclaimer that I understood I may die or become paraplegic or quadraplegic — with opiate pain meds no longer able to control the pain — my doctor suggested I try this.

Now, let’s crank the time machine back to 1967, “The Summer of Love” — the going rate for a kilo of grass was $300. A nickel bag was a sandwich bag that was nearly half full — and it cost $5. But, it was usually free. A group of friends would pass the joint. Someone always had something to roll.

But, that was then, and this is now, and I can’t wrap MY mind around the prices you folks are willing to pay to get high. Even if I wanted to, it just wouldn’t be worth that kind of money to me. I’d rather put my $$$ into rare coins, or just generic silver bullion rounds or bars. That would give me more long term happiness than a very transient bit of euphoria.

As I said, I’m looking for pain relief, not euphoria, and there’s no way I could pay those kind of prices, and surprise surprise, Blue Cross won’t cover the expense. So, I’m going to have to look into finding some seeds and growing. We’re allowed all of 12 plants per household, plus 10 Oz kept under lock and key, and up to 2.5 oz we can keep in our pocket and take anywhere we please.

And if you think I’m a STUPID old fart for worrying about getting busted, well… I’ve managed to stay out of prison, unlike many others — simply by avoiding getting on the wrong side of Mr. Law. I may not agree with the laws, but I sure as hell don’t want to find myself under their heels. It all comes down to how much you value your freedom — and, if it’s worth more — or less — than a few lapses into euporia.

So- your life is naught but pain, and yet, you’re claiming spending your money to buy metal will bring you happiness?
Interesting.

In this article, I talk about dime bags, nicks, and dubs. How much is a dime of weed? How big is a dime bag? I'll cover everything you need to know.
